West London Waste Authority selects openskys Integrated Waste Data Management System (IWDMS) to drive savings and efficiencies in data management

Posted on Jan 18, 2016

opensky Data Systems has been awarded a 5 year contract to customise and support an Integrated Waste Data Management System for West London Waste Authority due to go live towards the end of 2016.

West London Waste Authority (WLWA) is a statutory waste disposal authority (WDA) which was created in 1986 and is responsible for disposing of waste collected by the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond upon Thames.  About 1.4 million people live in this area, which covers 38,000 hectares.

WLWA provide facilities for receiving waste data collected by the six West London boroughs and their contractors. This includes the waste collected from households and at household waste sites. WLWA runs three waste transfer stations; in South Ruislip, Brent and Brentford.

Jay Patel, Head of Finance & Performance outlines the key considerations involved in choosing IWDMS and opensky in providing the solution, “We were looking for a web based solution to manage waste data, validate invoices and efficiently provide management / financial information. IWDMS ticks all the boxes and we are now looking forward to implementing the solution with opensky during 2016”

The key features of the system will support the following business process improvements at WLWA

  • Reduction in the number of data files updated by staff to one single source of waste data for all boroughs and contractors.
  • Automated data cleansing during uploads to ensure that all the data is valid before it is allowed into the database
  • Reconciliations of invoices will move from a manual to an automated process and link directly to tickets
  • Haulage calculations based on haulage weights pricing
  • New reporting and business intelligence features to enable self service waste data reporting by all system users from finance to IT to operations for performance management

Commenting on the win, Michael Cronin, Managing Director at opensky says, “We are looking forward to working with Mr Patel and his team at West London Waste Authority in 2016. We are continuing to invest in our offerings for the waste management sector. We are now the premier reseller of GMT’s CLEAR software to the recycling and waste processing industry in the UK. This new partnership solidifies our vision of creating a unified waste data management service to all the stakeholders involved in waste collection and disposal in the UK, to both government and commercial sectors”
