Global Award for new Public Transport mobile app brings contactless fare payments one step closer for UK and Irish passengers

Posted on Jan 26, 2016

Imagine hopping onto the bus, train or bike and as long as your SMART phone is with you, your fare is paid as you embark. No waiting in long queues, no delays waiting for an available ticket machine, to wondering if you have your bank card or have enough spare coins to pay the fare. Just HopOn.

Sounds too good to be true? Well it's a much closer reality than you might think. Last night, at the 5th Transport Ticketing & Passenger Information Global Awards at The London Transport Museum, the HopOn mobile app won the Ticketing Technology of the Year award and it can do all of these things.

The award recognises a ticketing technology or solution company which has developed a brand new product which is set to revolutionise ticketing as we know it.

"We were up against some really heavy hitters in this space so its great to see that true innovation from a small group of people who envisioned a better way can really disrupt a market and create whole new experiences for passengers on the ground" commented Ofer Sinai, CEO & Co-Founder of HopOn.

The HopOn solution is unique in that it utilises ultrasonic beacons which are low energy and easy to install for multi modal (bus, rail, bike) government and commercial operators.

opensky Data Systems, an Irish software company specialising in transport, environmental and health data are the local integrators of the solution in the UK and Ireland and they are already receiving a lot of interest from bus, rail and bike rental operators in the HopOn solution.

Transport Ticketing Global gathers the entire ecosystem in public transport across the world to address the question "How can the industry collectively get more people onto public transport?" so lets hope that they found the answer.
